Heather Roms had just left the dentist’s office when she received a notification on her phone. The notification was from he PulsePoint, an app that allows CPR-certified subscribers to receive alerts when someone nearby needs CPR, which allows them to respond and help. Roms is a nurse at a local hospital and first heard about the app from her mother, months before the incident. That day, she was one of three people who received the alert.
Roms immediately responded to the alert and was able to save the victim’s life, and became the first person in Oregon to respond to a PulsePoint alert.
