Little Aaliyah’s life was saved thanks to a simple CPR course that her grandfather took just days before she made her way into the family’s pool.
Her grandfather had come home from work and asked where the one-year old girl was. After frantically searching the house, they found her floating in the pool. “She was blue in the water,” her great-uncle, Justin Rivera, recalls.
Luckily for Aaliyah, her grandfather had taken a CPR refresher course for his job just the other day. They took her out of the pool and he immediately began compressions. The little girl began spitting up water and breathing as soon as paramedics arrived. Justin believes that the family dog must have pushed the unlocked sliding door open, allowing Aaliyah to wander outside. Things like this can happen in a matter of minutes, Rivera warned, and families need to be prepared.
Aaliyah is expected to make a full recovery and return home this week.
