Kinley Sanchez, a 9-month old girl, had been battling bronchitis for a few weeks. So when her breathing difficulty did not let up, her mother had had enough and got ready to take her to the hospital. That’s when Kinley suddenly stopped breathing. Says Kinely’s mother, ““She was having a really hard time breathing and she finally just stopped breathing, and I was screaming for Shawn. She turned completely limp and she was completely pale. Her lips were purple.”
Shawn, Kinley’s father, began CPR immediately. Thanks to an infant and toddler CPR class he took a year and a half ago, he knew exactly what he had to do. Thankfully, Kinley began whimpering and breathing again. Her parents rushed her to the fire station, where firefighters gave her oxygen and took her to the hospital. Kinley was diagnosed with asthma, and will require special treatment for her breathing problems.
Shawn says he never thought he would have to use CPR – taking the class was a kind of a spur of the moment thing. But now, his wife will be taking the class, and both are strongly urging their friends and family to take it as well.
