Kevin Kuhn has been a veterinarian for 24 years and has performed CPR on perhaps hundreds of animals. He had never done it on a person before, that is until a car crashed in front of his clinic.
A car had crashed into a mailbox, swerved through 5 lanes of traffic, and then crashed into a tree. Kuhn and his staff had heard the accident and rushed outside to make sure everyone was okay. The driver was unconscious and pale, and Kuhn knew he had to act quickly. With the help of a motorist’s lug wrench, they were able to get into the car and unlock the driver’s side so that Kuhn could help. Kuhn did not feel a pulse and immediately began compressions. He continued for about 2 or 3 minutes until a first responder came, but Kuhn said the driver let out a breath on his own right before they arrived, which sent Kuhn into a world of relief.
The driver was taken to a hospital where it is said he is in stable condition. Kuhn has taught his patients how to perform CPR on their pets for years and years and never thought he would have to perform it on a person, but he is of course happy that he was in the right place at the right time and knew what to do.
