Principal Rene Rovirosa was surveying his school’s wrestling practice when 15-year old student Devon Octave went into cardiac arrest. Having learned CPR a mere six days earlier, Rovirosa knew exactly what to do and began compressions on Octave until paramedics arrived. Octave was taken to the hospital and an defibrillator was implanted in his chest. He also learned that he suffers from a congenital heart condition, which caused the cardiac arrest.
But Devon is most thankful for his principal, and the two are now connected together for life. Rovirosa’s quick thinking saved the life of one of his students, something he will likely never forget.
